Jacques Cousteau on visiting Cocos Island called it "the most beautiful island in the world." And for good reason this underwater oasis lying 300 miles south west of Costa Rica in the Pacific Ocean is teeming with marine life and one of the best places in the world to dive with sharks and see Hammerhead Sharks schooling in huge numbers.
The waters around Cocos Island have the highest concentration of sharks in the world where divers can encounter large schools of Scalloped Hammerhead, Silky, White Tip Reef, Galapagos, Tiger, Blacktip, Silvertip and Whale Sharks along side Green, Hawksbill and Olive Ridley Turtles, Yellow Fin Tuna, Eagle Rays, Manta Rays, Moray Eels and even an occasional Frogfish. The remoteness of the Island has, for the most part, allowed the marine life to flourish with less fishing pressure then costal areas and also allows for palagic visitors such as Humpback Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins and even the very occasional Ocra to make an appearance.
