Diving and Snorkelling Holidays in the Indian Ocean
Ideal for couples, honeymooners of all diving and snorkelling abilities
The Indian Ocean stretches from the east coast of Africa, from the Horn of Africa, down to the tip of South Africa, and stretches east until it laps the sandy beaches of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
- The Maldives are the located most well-known for Indian Ocean diving, with their many atolls providing ideal conditions for coral growth, and with it comes the reef life. The area is also famed for encounters with Manta Rays and Whale Sharks. While the divers choice would often be the Maldives those looking for something a little different should consider the Seychelles, Mauritius or Sri Lanka.
- The Seychelles are made up of 115 islands just south of the equator with excellent diving. Hard and soft corals cling to walls and canyons sheltering Angelfish, Butterflyfish, Octopus, Turtles, Napoleon Wrasse, Grey Reef Sharks, Silver Tip Sharks, Nurse Sharks, Rays and even the odd Hammerhead Shark, Whale Shark and Manta Ray.
- Mauritius lies off the east coast of Madagascar, and in this channel the fringing reefs provide some interesting diving with strong currents, wrecks and walls to spice up a tropical holiday.
- Sri Lanka is opening up more to tourists, and while the draw may be the interior, there is diving to be had. River run off does affect visibility but there are wrecks to explore and further out there are reefs which are home to Turtles, Triggerfish, Rays, Angelfish and a host of other marine life. Sri Lanka is also a top destination to see the secretive Blue Whale.
