Located between Sulawesi and West Papua, Ambon is at the epicentre of muck diving. Thought of as the birthplace of Indonesian muck diving, the waters surrounding Ambon are teeming with critters including Wonderpus, Mimic and other Octopus, a variety of Cuttlefish, Lion and Scorpionfish including Leaf, Lacey and Paddle, and Pipefish of all shapes and sizes.
Frogfish including the newly-discovered and very rare Psychedelic Frogfish Shrimps and Crabs of all varieties can be found by the diver with a good eye. Ambon is more than just muck diving, with a large wreck to explore in the harbour, and some typical Indonesian reef diving on request. This is muck paradise where you are guaranteed to tick more than a few critters off your list and a great place to practise underwater photography.
Though remote, Ambon is relatively easy to get to, with regular daily flights. With this ease of travel, it is sure to become a hot destination in the coming years, so now is a great time to get out there and beat the crowds.
